How to make housing more affordable will be the focus of talks between federal Treasurer Scott Morrison and his state counterparts in Sydney on Friday.
Mr Morrison says he wants the discussion to go further than just looking at house prices.
"It is about rental affordability, it is about the effectiveness of social housing and how that is delivered, and it's also about getting people out of homelessness," he said.
Mr Morrison also wants to discuss how to better deliver services without duplication between levels of government and wasting taxpayers' money.
Queensland Treasurer Curtis Pitt said he wanted to hear from Mr Morrison, who took on the job only a month ago, about tax reform.
"Since Joe Hockey was replaced as treasurer, the new federal government has put more options on the table for tax reform," Mr Pitt said.
"We'd like to see a new era of cooperation from Treasurer Scott Morrison on taxation and economic matters."
