The company that was to build Melbourne's dumped East West Link has won a $338 million contract to give Rod Laver Arena a facelift.
Lend Lease will build the upgrade of the nation's premier tennis stadium and home of the Australian Open, after the 2016 tournament in January, but Sports Minister John Eren denied it was compensation for missing out on the East West Link.
"People can be cynical ... if you think that's an award, we think there's a proper process that's been implemented and we think that Lend Lease has won that fair and square," he told reporters on Wednesday.
