Chinese-based property developer Country Garden has confirmed discussions with rich lister Harry Triguboff over the potential sale of his Meriton property empire, according to The Australian Financial Review.
Country Garden Australia’s chief executive, Johnson Zhang, said that he had a strong relationship with Mr Triguboff and saw the potential for an acquisition to eventuate.
“[There is] a long way to go to confirm the sale and the price,” he told the AFR. “But when we meet he talks about selling his company. And if Mr Triguboff wants to sell Meriton, he would want to ensure that it is in the hands of someone who will look after it and grow it.”
Last week, Meriton was revealed to be in discussions with one suitor over a possible sale, with Mr Triguboff placing a $10 billion valuation on the business.
“What he says in public may not be the actual amount in the end,” Mr Zhang told the paper. “Meriton doesn’t have public information so we cannot comment whether $10 billion is good or not.”
Other firms linked to the business include Greenland Holdings and China Vanke.
